“Adding a battery changed everything. We can finally control when we sell and earn more from the same solar power.”

Nordess’ client is a commercial solar power plant located in northern Estonia. The operator wanted to improve the park’s profitability and reduce the negative impact of volatile energy prices.

Challenge

The solar park often produced more energy than the grid could absorb, especially during low-price hours. Selling electricity at those times brought limited returns, and part of the generation had to be curtailed. The owner needed a battery system to store excess production and release it when prices were higher.

Solution

Nordess supplied and integrated a 500 kW / 2.15 MWh battery system with the existing PV plant. The turnkey solution included system design, installation, and configuration for day-ahead, intraday, and balancing markets.

The project followed the same proven concept used earlier in the Märjamaa park, ensuring fast delivery and reliable results.

Results

The client now earns revenue from energy trading and flexibility services instead of relying only on spot prices. The system reduces curtailment, smooths production, and significantly improves ROI. The owner can now actively manage production and storage to maximize profit every day.
