Challenge

The shipyard faced fluctuating energy costs and high peak loads due to heavy machinery and irregular production schedules. They wanted to reduce peak demand charges and create a new income stream by participating in energy markets.

Solution

Nordess delivered a 400 kW / 500 kWh industrial-grade battery system connected directly to the shipyard’s grid connection point. The system was configured for FCR, aFRR, and intraday markets while also providing on-site flexibility and backup capacity.
Nordess managed the full delivery, commissioning, and integration process in cooperation with local partners.

Results

The shipyard now earns money by offering flexibility services to the Finnish grid while lowering its own energy costs. The system runs continuously and requires minimal maintenance. The client achieved both cost savings and new revenue through one turnkey solution.
