Lowering Retail Energy Costs with Battery Storage

Nordess’ client is a retail cooperative in southern Estonia operating multiple stores and commercial properties. The company sought ways to lower its electricity costs and improve energy efficiency across its sites.

Challenge

Electricity prices were rising and highly volatile. The cooperative wanted to stabilize energy expenses and increase self-consumption of renewable power within its stores. They also needed a solution that would comply with national support programs for sustainable investments.

Solution

Nordess supplied and installed 300 kW / 800 kWh of battery capacity distributed across three store locations. The turnkey systems were designed to store cheap electricity or solar power and discharge it during expensive peak hours. The setup was completed under a state support program, meeting all requirements for grant-based energy projects.

Results

The cooperative now pays up to 30% less for electricity and runs its stores more efficiently.

Each battery operates continuously, generating daily savings and supporting the grid. The client noted that the investment is outperforming even their retail margins.
