“The battery adds flexibility to our wind farm and makes the entire project far more profitable.”

The project owner is a wind park operator on Saaremaa, Estonia’s largest island. The company wanted to increase the value of its wind production through storage and flexibility.

Challenge

The wind park’s output was highly variable, leading to unstable revenues and grid balancing issues. The owner needed a way to capture surplus production, stabilize output, and access energy markets.

Solution

Nordess supplied and integrated a 2 MW / 4 MWh battery system designed to operate alongside 6 MW of wind capacity. The setup allows the site to balance generation, reduce curtailment, and participate in flexibility markets such as aFRR and mFRR.

Results

The battery now operates daily on flexibility markets, improving the site’s revenue stability and providing valuable grid support. The hybrid setup enables the owner to sell energy at better times and increase profitability.
